10 ideas to show your loved ones affection from a distance
We know all too well that for a few weeks now it has been better not to see each other physically for safety’s sake, but this is the opportunity to show your love in another way and hear from your loved ones regularly.
Now’s the time to be inventive to keep in touch. We’ve all seen it happening on social networks, and some have been very creative and found some incredible ideas for spending time with their loved ones in a new way, such as playing board games via Visio, sports sessions on Facetime, challenges through their phones, etc. Basically, we’re not lacking ideas for spending time with our loved ones, but apart from the usual Visio phonecall, we’ve dug up a few ideas to get you inspired.
1- RECORD AN AUDIO OR VIDEO MESSAGE
Not always available at the same time for a video call? So opt for a recorded voice message. Your kids will love making it and it can listened to again and again by grandparents to make the enjoyment of it last longer. Same goes for a recorded video!
Okay, great, but what do you say in this audio and video message? You can use this simple little sentence for example, you just have to finish it: “The thing I miss most about not seeing you, is…”, or: “We were thinking of you so we sang you your favourite song”, or: “We came up with some dance moves to your favourite song…” So many simple messages you can make and record.❤️
2- DRAW A LOVELY DRAWING
Suggest that your kids make a lovely drawing for their grandparents, uncles and aunts, friends, nanny, etc and send them a photo of it! Tell your children to look after it until they can give it to them personally. And the tip that makes all the difference? If your child is good at drawing, drawing a portrait of the person in question is even more touching.
3- PLAYING A BOARD GAME OVER YOUR SCREENS
Do you love playing board games with friends and family? Then play your favourite board game via a screen! 🎲Or if you don’t know what more to say to each other during the umpteempth video call in a week, it’s a good way of spicing things up a bit! Because let’s face it, sometimes you run out of stuff to tell each other 😛! “What did you do today?” “Nothing, how about you?” “Nothing either”… Yes, it’s high time you played a game of something!
But you didn’t think we were going to suggest this idea without telling you about a few games that lend themselves well to video? Battleships, Who’s Who?, etc. As long as everybody on the other side of the screen as the same game, you’re good to go.
Games you play with a board also go over well on Visio. We hear that Monopoly or Pay Day works well but we’re sure you’ve tried others, so why not suggest them to us!
And if you don’t have any games yourself, why not try something like Scattegories that you can play with just a piece of paper and a pen. It’s a great way to have a good time with your nearest and dearest, and to use it to catch up on news and pass the time.
4- THE SUPER FUN LITTLE GIF
Sometimes there’s no need for a long discussion to tell our nearest and dearest what we think of them and to get news. So why not show them a fun little GIF that’ll make them smile for a bit? Now that’s a great idea! And it just so happens we have a few spare to show you, you can find them throughout this article, all the way up to the end.😉
You can also use these little illustrations that we’ve made for you with lots of love so you can show your nearest and dearest how much you love them.
5- A FUN PHOTO FULL OF LOVE
A heart with hands, blowing kisses, a little message waved at arm’s length on some paper… there’s plenty of ideas to immortalise in photo and send to your friends and loved ones. Additionally this makes super memories for later on that you can slip into your kid’s lockdown diary.
6- A SPORTS SESSION WITH YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS
Who’s only been thinking about food this entire lockdown? 🖐️ So get moving, a small sports session with the kids will do us the world of good. And plus if you’re with your family or friends on the other side of the camera, everybody will be that much more motivated! It’s a different way of showing your love but as long as we’re looking after our nearest and dearest, that’s fine, right? And one and two, and three and four… 😉
P.S: to make this even more fun, opt for sports in fancy dress. It’s called SPROT and we promise it will have you howling with laughter!
7- ANAGRAMS USING FIRST NAMES
Fancy sending a personalised little message to your nearest and dearest? So why not try creating anagrams with their first names? Hear the latest from them while keeping busy and having fun, what a great idea!
8- BAKE A CAKE FOR A LOVED ONE
Well, we all know that at the end of the day it’s you and your kids who are gonna eat this cake but it’s the thought that counts, right? And we’re sure granny will appreciate the gesture! Obviously, remember to take a photo or a small video of the cake and your kids BEFORE devouring it. We thought we’d better emphasise that😛!
To make this little treat unforgettable, opt for “customisable” cakes. For example: heart-shaped cookies or cookies that spell out the first name of the person you’re making them for.
You can also bake together on Visio with friends, first making sure you’ve all got the right ingredients.
9- SEND FLOWERS
As we’re trying to preserve delivery staff, we’re trying to limit deliveries as much as possible so opting for a simple photo of the recipient’s favourite flowers, along with a little message saying “As I wait to give you some of these in person…” could be just as effective. 💐
But if you still want to send flowers anyway, you can do so by selecting a company that complies strictly with health and safety measures when composing bouquets and delivers them in total safety, the way Bloom and Wild do. This is also a nice gesture towards helping companies who may have to throw out all their stock of flowers otherwise and would really make a friend or loved one’s day. But we do insist you do this safely.
10- YOU TELL US
